Victorian Lingerie or Tea Dress
Very feminine white Victorian tea or lingerie dress, circa 1900. The top half of the bodice on this pretty dress and the wrist-length sleeves are made of dotted tulle. The neck, arms and wrists show gathers. The tulle is in excellent condition. There is one 1 ¼” separation of the tulle at the shoulder seam. The back closes with 8 hooks and eyes. The tulle is further trimmed with a 1” lace and white work band which is again repeated at the bottom edge of the peplum and at the top of each section of ruffles on the skirt. The waist is gathered with 2” of shirred fabric. The length of this dress is 51” from front shoulder seam to hem. The length from the top of the sleeve inset across the shoulder tot the top of the opposite sleeve is 12 ½”. The waist is approximately 24” and the sleeve length is 25”. The skirt has two tiers of ruffles, one with 3 rows of ruffles and one with 4 rows of ruffles. The bust is approximately 34-36”. The front is similar to the back without the closures. There is a small mark on the bodice and on the waist which may come out with soaking. This dress has been steamed but not laundered and there are no odors. There is a 1 1/2” separation of lace to the top ruffle in the bottom tier. There is no wear to the hem and may never have been worn. This pretty dress comes from an estate in Rochester, New York.
